Georgina Beyer: World’s First Transgender Mayor

Season 4

We pay tribute to a true trailblazer, Georgina Beyer, whose legacy stretches far beyond the beautiful mountains of New Zealand. ????????

Georgina Beyer, a figure of courage and resilience, made history as the world’s first openly transgender mayor. Her journey was not without its hard yakka, but her spirit, undeterred, blazed a path for sex workers, LGBTQ+ rights, and the Māori community. ????????

Last year, at 65, Georgina left us, but her stories and battles continue to inspire. In 2018, she took the stage at Barefaced Stories during the NZ International Arts Festival, sharing her incredible life story—marked by challenge, change, and triumph. ????️????

Join us in celebrating Georgina’s life and legacy. Listen to her voice, her story, and let’s carry forward the torch of change she lit so fiercely. ????❤️
